Gunman Shot Outisde US Capitol

Trigger Warning:
Calls for gun control in 3...2...1...

Fox News is reporting that shots have been fired at the Visitor's Center at the US Capitol.  There's absolutely no indication I can find at this time of who it is or why.  Apparently though the incident is confined to the Visitor's Center.

Capitol employees are being told to shelter in place.  The White House has also been placed on lock down as a precaution.

One Capitol police officer has been shot, although apparently they were not seriously injured.  A suspect is in custody at this time.

It goes without saying this is a developing news story.  We have zero idea of who this person is or why they decided to open fire in the Capitol Visitor's Center.

I'll be posting updates as I get them.

UPDATE: Unlawful Entry Attempted at White House

CNN correspondent Dianne Gallagher posted this on Twitter just a few minutes ago:

Apparently the White House is back to normal, and the incident at the Capitol was unrelated:
I'm VERY interested in knowing just what the incident at the White House was...

UPDATE: No Threat to Public

CNN is reporting that the D.C. Police Department has tweeted the incident at the Capitol represents "no threat to the public."  Makes sense if they've already captured the shooter.  The cops must not be expecting anyone else.

CNN is also reporting that the incident at the White House involved someone trying to jump the fence.  They're still insisting the two events are completely unrelated.  I have my doubts, though.  A shooter at the Capitol AND someone just happens to try to jump the White House fence within minutes?  C'mon.

Saw this interesting question asked on Twitter:
Bet your ass there's going to be a flurry of libtards demanding new gun control after this incident.  At least this time no one was killed.

Townhall Media posted a video of a witness' account of the Capitol shooting on YouTube:
Not a whole lot in the way of details.  It sounds like the witness wasn't actually present for anything.  It seems she was getting texts describing the shooting from her boyfriend.  Not clear if the boyfriend actually saw anything or just heard it.  It's worth noting, though, that he said it sounded like a full clip was unloaded.

UPDATE: No Officers Injured, Suspect Identified

Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa held a news conference earlier this afternoon.  It turns out that, despite initial reports, no Capitol police officers were injured in the shooting.  The injured party was actually an innocent bystander.  The suspect was shot after drawing what appeared to be a weapon at a security checkpoint.  He's currently undergoing surgery, and his condition is unknown.

The suspect has also been identified as a 56-year-old Tennessee resident named Larry Dawson.  Apparently he's been to the Capitol many times, enough to where an order to stay away was issued.

Seems like this guy may have been a few cans shy of a six pack.
